June Muscroft
Artist and Illustrator
June Muscroft is an artist born during the summer of 1942. Her parents, Charles and Winifred lived and worked in Illford during the war, however, when the doodlebugs started raining down June was quickly evacuated to the countryside. It was on Aunt Kate’s farm during her childhood where she fell in love with the landscape of Suffolk and the freedom and safety that it represented.
In 1960, June attended SSE Art School in London. She was taught by Eric Baker, Founder of CND and co-founder of Amnesty International, who fuelled her lifelong belief in peace and social justice. June left education and worked in the magazine industry during the 1960’s as a layout artist on titles such as Bunty. By the 1970s she had dropped out of mainstream society and was living in a commune where she had her first child.
As her family grew she moved back to East Anglia where her parents were now living and June became active in the local community art scene in Suffolk. During the 80’s and 90’s June set up Arts 604, a project which worked with underprivileged children to provide them with a safe place to discover the world of art and culture. By now June was living in rural Essex bringing up her three boys and was also busy working with adults who had severe learning difficulties.
June has shared her art at many local exhibitions in East Anglia, however, there has not been a place until now where the range of her work can be seen from the period 1959-2015. So enjoy.
