Noh business like .....

June in this striking pen and ink piece, “Noh” from 1982, explores the inner world of meditation and the concept of collective consciousness using the ancient imagery of Japanese Noh theatre.

Dating back to the 14th century, the classical musical drama is derived from the Sino-Japanese word for "skill" or “talent”. Noh actors wear intricately carved masks to which they have a deep spiritual connection; some are handed down through generations and believed to contain energies from past performers. The masks are inspired by images of the Buddah and are deliberately asymmetrical so that they evoke different emotions when viewed from from different angles.
